just a quick one before my FIRST law lecture (AHH!) because I have no idea where my lecture is held so it'll take me QUITE a while to find the place.

anyway, today I went for my first library session.
sounds really dweeby BUT, I must emphasize just how important this library session is!
because it looks as though the library is gonna be my best friend for a long time to come.
stupid law requires HEAPS of research and hence, library.
so the library session was to learn research skills and etc.
made quite a few friends in my tutorial (same as library session class) so it was all good.

sounds strange but I suddenly like this anonymity.
I like going to class not knowing anyone.
I like going to a lecture knowing I don't have to sit with a particular person and I can just sit whereever I want.
(I think it's only a temporary thing because I have this heeuge tendancy to feel independant and then suddenly terribly dependant)

AND (this one requires huge emphasis) I'm cooking my FIRST meal for the house today!
I went grocery shopping for all the ingredients and being a poor student means grocery shopping tactics have changed drastically.
I used to grab whatever I want and dump it in the trolley.
but now, my eyes are desperately trying to spot those white savers tags for cheap deals and I make sure I buy the cheapest.

and since my class will end at 6, I started preparing the food beforehand so I can just go straight home and start cooking.
and I chopped my first onion ever and it was a terribly experience because I wouldn't stop tearing.
and crying is alot easier because at least your eyes don't hurt.
my eyes were smarting like hell for a good ten minutes.
plus, my hands now smell like onion even though I washed them with soap THREE times.

arg!
okay, ten minutes to find my lecture theatre now!
gotta jet.

I AM ONLINE!
currently tapping into the law library's wireless until I get internet connection which wont be for another week or so.

anyway first lectures today and I'm... lost.
was sitting through my accounting lecture and I was thinking how the heeell am I gonna survive 5half years.
and law doesn't look any easier on the brain.

and I still haven't learnt how to do my laundry.
or cooked my first meal.
been eating out, or sitting in front of the laptop watching OC episodes, stuffing my face with instant noodles and timtams.

anyway, the top two things on my mind which are absolute essentials are
1. INTERNET CONNECTION (arg arg, not for another week or so!)
2. A PRINTER (I can't believe I have to print my own notes and I wish I wasn't doing such a terribly boring course)

oh, yes and my BANK CARD!
which still hasn't arrived yet.

still mundane here in good old brisbane.
and I haven't had much time to do any inane thinking.
so just some erm.. photos.

THE BEACH! at sunshine coast

my roooom. it's not all green and cosy (it's pink actually) but I am satisfied

LAURA! you see this?!

HI GIRLS! YOU SEE THIS?!

and, I feel very poor here.
in fact, I just feel very poor and broke.

Wednesday, February 15, 2006

my flight today is at 910, terminal 1
just to let you all know.

so vday was also my last night in singapore and I'm starting to feel a little unhappy about leaving.
actually make that terribly unhappy:(
it all didn't seem real, even when I was busily chucking things into my suitcase, half frazzled about whether I'd packed everything.
even until now, I still feel a little.. unpacked.

but it was really a wonderful vday night, although not in the conventional vday sense.
my lovely dates for the night, cel laura marc tat and gab came over for spanking feel good movies (cinderella story and my tutor friend) and a glorious spread of hawker fare (hokkien mee, chwee kueh, chicken rice, oyster omelette and barbequed chicken wings!)
and not forgetting little bits of excitement (!!! LAURA!) being injected into our little friendly vday affair which really made me quite happy.

I think tonight (or last night more like) I managed to do a lot of the little things which I missed doing.
just the simple things like watching a really beautiful moon with wispy clouds sweeping by (I really like the moon).
and sitting on the swings and competing to see whose swing is higher, or twisting the swing chains round and round so we'd spin dizzily until it comes to a stop.
and going for late night walks and visiting the park when it's pitch dark.
and playing tictactoe and memory game on the rolling boards which they installed in the park.
and eating a delish variety of hawker food all at one go!

last night was also a very memorable night because marc tat and I stayed up all the way until 8am (!!) having a really fab blast from the past session.
firstly, we played BINGO! (I'm the bingo queen and marc's the.. erm bingo king)
then we played Memory Game (marc and tat are really good at this, I suck)
then we played Egyptian Ratrace (marc's the sole winner, tat and I are terrible)
then we played Speed (tat's the champ, I'm not so bad, marc sucks)
then we played Hangman (towards the end we all got really good at this)
and we had snack break of instant noodles and ferrero rocher, good stuff!
then we lay on the couch and played 10 Questions which eventually led to the Circle of Trust which went on and on until daybreak.

tat and marc engrossed in movie

cel and laura ALSO engrossed in movie

marc likes bingo

tat likes bingo

I like bingo

I got abit bored along the way so I started drawing tattoos for marc and tat

this is a comic representation of tat

this is tat's muscle mania tattoo which I designed for him, EAGLE TAT!

and this is for marc, the bingo king

circle of trust

so to sum up this wonderful last night in sg of mine, it was one filled with great friends, plenty of trust (and food!) and lots of old school memories.

what's a girl to do when she has the sweetest friends alive?
:)
that's what:)

I predicted a somewhat gloomy day today when I had to wake up bright and early for my hair appointment and there was a traffic jam so my dad had to drop me somewhere else and I had to make my way down myself from Raffles Place.
then I forgot to take my medication so my mother demanded that I make my way back after my appointment to take my medicine before I meet laura.

anyway after my haircut, I really meant to go home, but I got abit distracted and did some shopping on the way.
then I met laura and sooz cause there was supposed to be an AAgirls dinner!
and I waited so freaking long for the girls to come down from work til I was absolutely starving.
then sue went home cause she needed to get money.
and when laura told me that sue was too lazy to come out and we had to go to her house for dinner instead, I was a tad bit disappointed!

but then, it is ALL OKAY!

because, when I got to sue's house, I was greeted by a whole trill of SURRRRPRISE!
and surprised I was :)
I honestly had no idea.
thanks rage for organising everything!

anyway everything was going swell and then joan said shumin your mom is outside
and I was like huh?
and she said, your mother is behind you!
I turned around to see my mother and sister behind me with a cake in hand!
apparantly they all knew about it days ago without telling me!
so anyway, I was really very very happy and touched.

and it was a really lovely night with lots of unhealthy food (I feel so teribly sick thinking about the oily pizzas and even oilier chickens) and wonderful friends :)

so thanks rage sue laura mich jame becky fiona lesley joan kren izzy belinda slow cel candice sarahchan huiying cass michelleloh yappers and alina for this absolutely wonderful farewell :)

most days I love home and solitude, being alone in my room just sorting out my thoughts and feelings with wistful melancholy music playing in the background or simply enjoying that time to myself to rearrange my accessories or curl up with a good book.

but there are some days where this holed up loneliness is almost too lonely to bear because the music is a little too wistful, the silence a little too loud and that emptiness settles in the pit of your stomach and centre of your heart, causing these senseless tears to spring to your eyes.
and right then and there all you want is your mind to shutdown and your heart to numb.

on days like these, I find the only way is to surround yourself with people and let the noise and activity fill the pores of your brain and substitute that emptiness and loneliness just for that little while.

but then night comes and I'm all alone in my room once again.
perhaps there's this self-destructive streak in me which doesn't allow me to play anything else other than wistful melancholy music and forces me to replay little scenes that should be smartly stashed into the darkest corners of my memory.
and the funniest thing is that a little part of me enjoys this moody respite because it's probably the only time I get to remember and replay things dear to me.
but all at the same time I wish I wouldn't remember.

and I think it's rare that I find someone to talk to over the phone that I don't need to talk to.
the kind of person where you don't have to jabber nonstop to over the phone, but just knowing they are over the line for you to say something to whenever you want to say something.
I had just that kind of phone conversation yesterday and it was quite pleasant considering I didn't want to be alone but yet I didn't want to talk up a storm.

all the gloom aside, I had a really great day today, alot alot of fun :)
because, I went to the ZOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the zoo, for some strange reason.
I say strange because I'm not some hugeass animal lover but I love looking at animals and trotting round the place, away from the hustle and bustle.

anyway, be prepared for photo overload because I think almost every single photo deserves to be put up!

introducing the, ZOO TEAM!: tat, marc, gab and ME!

the white tiger which everyone was quite awed by, cause it is such a beautiful animal

the pygmy hippos! I think they are so cute and they remind me of zoolympix! I remember this was michelle's booth

the freaking HUGE fish which is carnivorous

before we saw the fish, marc was daring tat to stick his hand in the water for 10 seconds for 20 bucks.
and after we saw the fish, our only reaction was... omg, MONSTERfish!

one of gab's favourite animals, the SNAKES

I only put up one photo of a snake because the rest were a little blurry.
and this snake has a heart-shaped print! so cool!
anyway the snakes were all pretty neat as long as they remained in their glass enclosures.
I loved the green ones because they were gorgeous shades of green and we saw huge ass snakes strangling chicks.
it was quite a scary sight.

THE CUTEST ANIMAL I SAW TODAY! the PRAIRIE DOG!

isn't it simply adorable?
marc spent such a long time trying to catch little snaps of these cute lil furballs while they curiously turned their sniffing noses towards his camera.
too cute :) :)

another little cutie, the squirrels munching their food daintily

this sleeping lioness reminded me so much of smokey when he sleeps that I had to take a snap!

okay, now on to photos of PEOPLE! or, 'people'..

firstly, our dearest eric, the meerkat :)

when we saw the meerkat..
gab: hey, that's eric..
marc: OMG! it's eric!
(me trying to get a snapshot)
marc: ERIC! ERIC! LOOK HERE!
gab: ERIC!
tat: eric..
marc: ERIC! ERIC!

ha ha eric you know we still love you..

and next, gab and marc the SPOON!

marc's the self-proclaimed SPOON because we were in kfc and he was playing with the little plastic spoons.
so he decided on some little action and catch-phrasing where he very smoothly fanned out the three spoons with one hand before saying I'm the SPOON! so don't fork with me..
I have a video of it in my mobile ha ha

one of my favourite photos! marc and I with the cute lil donkey which some woman lured away using leaves!

boys photo, gab tat and marc

zoo pals!

sup, yo! (looking like shit here, but all in the zoo spirit!)

marc and I on the elephant!

this was probably one of my favourite parts of the zoo trip :)
those 8 bucks we paid each was well spent.
too bad gab and tat didn't want to join us :(

the terrifying moment

this was when our elephant decided to throw a tantrum and refused to budge.
and the trainer kept giving these loud snappish commands but the stubborn lil (?!) creature simply refused to take a step forward but instead decided to sway left and right and throw a hissy fit!
I kept wondering if it was going to throw us off its back :/
(as you can see, marc and I are looking a little.. wary)

the elephant well on its way again and so marc and I are all smiles

so a fantastic day with friends and animals and ben and jerrys, followed by a huge satisfying dinner with the family made today absolutely memorable :)

I think I can declare my sore eyes almost cured!
no more swelling, no more redness, no more pain, just a slight itch.

so yesterday was a pretty great night!
soozie's birthday was fab for a dozen reasons.
mostly cause I got to meet everyone and a close second would be the fantastic food.
I know I always repeat myself about the food at soozie's, but it's really really lip-smackingly four-serving-inducingly delish!

the pretty birthday girl sooziekins :)

my favourite girls

and I was terribly unlucky last night.
I lost during blackjack at sue's house, then when cel and I went to gab's house, I lost at poker and I lost TERRIBLY (cannot emphasize much) at mahjong.

but it was a pretty good night with lots of pong, tv, maccers delivery and laughter.
actually I think it was just laughter on marc's and my side because we both sat on the quirky chair.
I swear that chair that we sat makes you go crazy because first I sat on it and I kept making annoying sounds, then marc sat on it and he started making these freaakking funny annoying sounds.
but marc was really damn funny yesterday.
I don't remember laughing so hard for almost a whole year.
actually I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe and I wanted to roll off my chair.
I've currently put marc at the top of my funny list, the happy juice!

my fellow pongers: kawaii marc, shy tat, captain gab and cel the belle

and

ME!

marc, tat and I formed a team against gab because he wouldn't stop winning.
but then after a while, tat abandoned us cause he started winning heaps!
he left poor marc and I to lose and lose and lose until we had zero chips in our drawers and had to borrow from him!

so anyway, this is mr. happy juice marc

who looks sad because he had no money.

and GO TEAM! enshrouded in our little golden glow ha ha

ohwell, lots to say but yet nothing to say at the same time.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY SOOZIEGIRL, FAV S to the E to the A to the T BAAAARDEEE! (in purple, because of all those purple files you kept bringing to school and the purple hairband and purple hairtie)

I know this is a damn fug photo of us, but I think it speaks volumes about our friendship!
1. it's a reminder of our SCHOOL DAYS, favseatbuddies!
2. it's a reminder of all the shit we used to do and still do!
3. it's on the bleachers! where we'd sit down and talk and people watch and skip pe cause of sports season.
4. I just happen to think it's a very very side-splitting-ly hilarious picture
and..
5. I love you so much I'm willing to put up a hideous photo of myself with your finger up my nostril (ha ha, JUST KIDDING! but I do love you very much)

so happy happy happy 19th birthday my dearest soozie :)
you're one of the best things of my jc life with all the Alevel mugging, goss sessions, doodling, napping, heart to hearts, encouragement, study sessions, food sessions, moooovies, sleepovers, walking sessions and even that time where we lit the disco ball in your room and erm... yknow.
thanks for everything and most of all, thanks for being one of my closest friends.
even when you're 90, I'm going to hobble up to you with my walking stick and yell, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
that's how far our friendship's gonna go :)

-

anyway, hooray, because my sore eyes don't hurt so much anymore and the swell's gone down.
I just hope after the sore eyes go, the cough will be next to go followed shortly by the clogged up nose.

and I think I'm in the mood for some company today.
yesterday I was in some kind of overkill mood, so I locked myself up in my room, didn't talk to anybody save for replying a few smses, listened to some good ol' oldies looked at old pictures and read old emails.
quite an overkill.
so today I think I'm in the mood for some company, fun, food and laughter.
I think I'm done with thinking, at least for today.

Wednesday, February 08, 2006

I don't normally wallow in self-pity, but I'm currently feeling very, very, very (x100) miserable.
on top of the damned flu bug which leaves me snuffly-nosed and dry-throated, I now have two runny, watery, gloopy sore eyes.
I've never had sore eyes in my life and now that I do have it, I think it feels like shit.
it feels like shit when I close my eyes and feels like shit when I open them.
and I don't like going to sleep because I know when I open my eyes the next morning they will feel like shit, but yet if I don't sleep they still feel like shit.
and, that's just how awful and miserable and shitty I feel, because my vocabulary has been reduced to everything feeling.. like shit.
and basically that's how I feel.

so besides feeling inconceivably physically shitty, I can't go for my last mambo tonight (and all my friends are going too! so rare that everyone goes) because of them contagious sore eyes.
and I can't meet joan today because of them contagious sore eyes.
and I can't go for soozie's birthday tomorrow because of them contagious sore eyes.
and I can't see the AAgirls tonight or tomorrow because of them contagious sore eyes (and I was really hoping for a full reunion this week)
and I can't see anyone for the next four days because of them contagious sore eyes.
and my mother has confined me to my room for the next four days because of them contagious sore eyes!
she even made me wear sunglasses in the house.
and she told me not to go near her.
or my dad.
or my sis.
or the.. dog.

and all this physical misery manifests itself into internal misery, yknow?
so I'm feeling pretty awful inside and outside.

and I'm leaving in exactly one week.
but I won't be able to see any of my friends or do any last minute shopping for the next four days because of my stupid eyes.
which leaves me three (!!) days to see my friends and do last minute shopping for essentials.

I think I will use these four days to burn my songs and photos in cds to bring over to australia.
and I'll use these four days to pack.
and hopefully, these eyes will heal a lot quicker than 4days.

and on other miserable notes, eric came and went way too quick.
:(
but here's my favourite picture of this holiday because I think we look oddly but very cheerily happy and is also damn cool because it's marc's camera taking owen's flash.

everyone takes a gazillion photos all the time but rarely do you come across one where everyone is really, genuinely, candidly very happy.
but I think we were really, genuinely candidly very happy in this one, in its own weird fashion.
and I think that's the nice thing about pictures.
it helps retain and capture some of that happiness, especially when it's gone.
and when you look back at the photo, you remember with a funny smile on your face and you can go hey, we look so happy here and the truth is, you probably were.

and sometimes, that's just enough.
is it not?

-

rou: I'm going to University of Queensland and I'll be doing law and commerce
jingmin: I'm leaving on the 15th! ack in one week!
cheryl&liz: cheryl, I think you might win this bet since I'm down with friggen sore eyes!! nevermind, SEE YOU AT THE AIRPORT! ha ha if you're sending me off heehee..
dith: I adore such cheaps too! omg, I hope the next one comes while I'm back
ann: long time no see is right! ha ha I was just thinking about you the other day, yknow. remembering our sec3/4 days reading those magazines and doing those quizzes during english. arg! I wish I'd gone to the flea market..

Sunday, February 05, 2006

I think my immune system is very weak.
in the past couple of months, I've gotten sick thrice!
this being the third time :(
which is not a very good thing at all, considering I'm jetting off in one and a half weeks and I'd like to be in relatively tiptop condition before I go.

and I wanted to go to the zouk flea market today but thanks to the damn flu bug, I'm home, err well, blogging :(

anyway, on much brighter notes, I met two of my favourite girls yesterday!

everyone, say hello to laura and soozie!

my fav seat buddy and I

laura, miss exciting on the roll pops girl

it was the usual lunch and laughter and yakkity yaks, which I like very much.
and as everyone has reiterated, I do miss the AAgirls very much.
we haven't had a proper meet up in quite a while and I'd like to have one very intact and complete set of AAgirls reunion before I leave.

and on another note, I met my housemates yesterday.
pretty neat bunch.
just hope I settle in alright when I'm there.

and lately, my brain just seems to function on auto-pilot mode because I can't be bothered to think about anything.
